Solar Eclipse: The best places in India to view the annular solar eclipse
On December 26, , the third and final solar eclipse of the year will provide a visual treat to several parts of India between 8 am and am IST. This eclipse will be an annular solar eclipse — a type of eclipse that occurs when the apparent diameter of the Moon is smaller than that of the Sun.

Twice in each month, the Moon crosses the Earth-Sun plane, and all three objects effectively get aligned in the same plane. If New Moon is present at that time, then Solar Eclipse occurs. Let us take the example of Total Solar Eclipses. For these to happen, the Sun and the Moon should be in the same plane and the New Moon phase should be ongoing.
If the Moon is closer to Earth and the Sun is far, then the Solar Diameter, as seen from Earth, will be smaller than the diameter of the Moon on that night. Note that the apparent size of the Sun and the Moon, as seen from Earth, changes as the distance of the Sun and the Moon from Earth is not the same every day. The Earth moves around the Sun, while the Moon moves around the Earth in elliptical orbits. So the size as seen depends on where the object is in its orbit. If the Moon is at farthest position Apogee , its perceived size will be smaller.
If it is closest to Earth, then it will be perceived as larger. The same is true for the Sun. At perihelion when the Earth is closest to the Sun , the Sun appears larger than when at Aphelion when the Earth is farthest from the Sun. When the Moon is farthest, its size is smallest as seen from the Earth.
If on the same day, the Earth is closest to the Sun, then the size of the Sun will be largest. If Solar Eclipse happens on that day, then the Sun will be larger than the Moon, and the Moon will not be able to cover the Sun completely. Instead, it will appear to be completely inside the Sun. So we will see the Sun as a bright red object with a black moon inside. This is an Annular Eclipse. Why will the annular eclipse on December 26 be visible mainly from southern India?
What will other regions in India and the rest of the world see? The "annularity" starts from Saudi Arabia and enters India just before Mangalore from the west end of the country. It travels across India and exits near the east coast. The maximum duration is near the centre of the belt, viz. The hill town of Ooty is at the centre of the belt, and will thus witness the annularity for 3 min.
Even if you are abroad, especially in Asia, you can enjoy the event. Those who are on vacation in Singapore, can enjoy the annularity at the south-end beaches of Singapore. If you are in Malaysia, enjoy the annularity near Kuching and other provinces.

At the edge of the map, the annularity time is less. The time of annularity depends on where you are located on the annularity belt. If you do it now, you will see a round Sun. But during an eclipse, you will see a phase of the Sun! This is the cheapest and the best way to see a Solar Eclipse. Eclipse will not cause any harm to any electronic and communication devices on Earth. If the device is solar powered, it will get less energy during maximum eclipse and behave accordingly. There are no changes in the positions of the Sun, Moon, or Earth, and no changes in the gravity for sure! Cooking or eating during eclipse is perfectly fine. However, those women will simply miss out on one of the spectacular and rare events of their time, and no harm shall come to the lady or her unborn child.

Wearing solar filters, men, women and children watched the partial eclipse, which began around 8.
